OER Workshop at the Enriching Scholarship event

On Wednesday, May 5th members of the Open Educational Resources (OER) group of the Open.Michigan initiative will be presenting a session at the 2008 Teaching and Technology Collaborative’s Enriching Scholarship Event.

This session will introduce participants to the OpenCourseWare (OCW) and Open Educational Resource (OER) movements and focus on our current Open.Michigan project. We’ll explain the pilot OER program within the U-M health sciences schools and discuss the development of the “dScribe” initiative – our sustainable, student-centered publishing model that connects motivated students and interested faculty in a collaborative teaching / learning environment.

We’ll also demonstrate the OER publishing software tools we are currently developing and will lead a workshop where participants will be able to interact with these software tools and provide feedback. In addition, we will likely engage in a discussion of various pertinent OER topics, including intellectual property issues, open content licensing, fair use of educational materials, and a potential research agenda.
